It is 50 years into his reign, and still Merlin has yet to remember to turn and face the speaker when someone addresses him as "Your Majesty". Although of late, this may have more to do with preoccupation with affairs of state and the legion of ambassadors that are currently infesting the Courts. While ordinarily these deputations would be looked on as welcome comedic relief for their natural entertainment value, the very real threat of a demonic rebellion and intimations that forces are being mustered in the Abyss for an incursion into reality proper have somewhat spoiled the humor. Tensions rose yet again when Amber sent a deputation to discuss the latest intelligence on the expected incursion and to demand assurances from King Merlin that the accords between the realms would not be infringed. The word at Court appears to be that His Majesty is in no way prepared to make any such assurance, for the excellent reason that it simply isn't within his Power to do so. Word also has it that Amber's ambassador is about to offer Merlin an ultimatum in the matter, and as it comes in the person of HRH Fiona it probably isn't a good turn of events. Meanwhile, as such things go, the first assassinations were more or less dilatory. An afterthought really, but obligatory in terms of the official welcome to new parties at Court. Old hands blushed at the clumsiness of it, even in the rushed political tempo of the moment, they really weren't up to standard. Discussions were held of a private nature attempting to inject some liveliness into the proceedings. At first it didn't seem all that fruitful, until this last round of endeavors, whereupon the Crown announced in open Court that it was not amused and that the party or parties should cease forthwith on pain of something exceedingly unpleasant, and worse, time consuming. And yet, it has not. The outrages have only increased. The Crown requires your assistance in identifying the perpetrators and delivering them to justice.
